Data Management Training Portal

Status Successor Built with

The earliest deployed version of the data-management curriculum that grew into The MDM Lab. Text-first, version-controlled, searchable. Kept here as the long-form text reference and as a record of where the idea began.

What this is

A training portal for data management, built with MkDocs Material. Covers Data Fundamentals, Systems Architecture (SoE / SoR / SoRef), Modern Data Sources, and the rest of the lifecycle — in long-form text rather than a SaaS surface.

Authored by Raja Shahnawaz Soni. Free for personal study and reference.

Why it still exists

It's not abandoned and it's not duplicate work. It's the text-first version of the same curriculum that now powers The MDM Lab's interactive modules. Different shipping format for different reading modes:

Surface Best for
The MDM Lab (live) "I want to practise, not read" — interactive lessons, AI tutor, workbenches, DPR Lab
This portal (here) "I want to read straight through" — long-form chapters, searchable, code-blocky, archive-friendly

The MkDocs site is superseded as the primary learning surface, but it's not deprecated as a reference. Think of it as the textbook that sits next to the lab.

Status

  • Built and deployed. Has a deployment_verification.md confirming the last good ship.
  • No active feature work. Content updates land in The MDM Lab first; this portal will only get critical-fix backports.
  • Will be archived to read-only once the MDM Lab covers 100% of the topic surface here. Currently around 80%.
