Use This Template

  1. Visit the front page of this repository
  2. Click on the green button saying Use this template
  3. Choose a name for your own project.
  4. You now have a version of it on your account!

Clone your repository

  1. Open GitHub Desktop
  2. Click on Add > Clone Repository...
  3. Select the forked repository
  4. Select a place where to save your clone of the repository
  5. Click on the 'History' tab to get an overview of all the repository's past commits.

Publish a Web Page

  1. Go to your account
  2. Find your repository
  3. Find the Settings button
  4. Find the Pages tab (in the left sidebar)
  5. Select the main branch to publish your pages
  6. Select the /docs folder to publish your pages
  7. Hit Save
  8. Done!

Every time you push one or more commits to your online repository now, GitHub will try to deploy your website. This will take a minute, but afterwards your website will be automatically updated with the new changes.

Link to your web page

  1. Go back to the home page of your repository
  2. Wait for a green check mark to appear next to the hash-code of your commit.
  3. GitHub is done deploying your website now
  4. Refresh the page
  5. On the right side bar, there should be a section called Environments
  6. Click on the section title, or on the link called GitHub-pages
  7. Find the View Deployment button
  8. Admire your work
  9. Copy the URL to this page
  10. Go back to the home page of your repository
  11. On the readout of README.md (below the list of files and folders in your repository), click on the pencil icon (edit)
  12. Delete the URL on line 3, and replace it with the URL to your own website
  13. Scroll down, and hit the green commit changes button
  14. Your README.md file now links to your own website!
  15. Go to GitHub Desktop
  16. Click on the Fetch Origin and/or Pull origin tab.
  17. Your local repository is now up to date (and also includes the right link.

Modify the template

Start making changes to your repository (on your local computer). Change the CSS rules, change the image, change the HTML. You can exchange the data for data that is more relevant to your own project. When you make changes, commit them in Google Desktop. Every now and then, push your commits to your online repository. See how it changes the look of your website.
