Starting an experiment requires that you have scanners installed and that no-one is using the scanner.

Starting an experiment.

Scan-o-matic asks about several things when starting an experiment. Some things are mandatory, but not all. The latter half can be skipped, but we urge the user to take their time answering those questions too as they may become useful when hunting down reasons for the rare case of a failed experiment. It also builds a resource of data useful for meta-analysis. Scan-o-matic sends no data to nowhere unless you request it to mail you about progress of your experiment.

The three fields project tag, layout tag and verification tag are there for integration with data-storage infrastructure and can be omitted.
