Vox-Send for ThinLine Radio

Overview

Vox-Send is a professional multi-channel audio transmission application designed for ThinLine/radio scanner enthusiasts and emergency service monitoring. It captures audio from Virtual Audio Cables (VAC), processes it with advanced filtering, and transmits it to rdio-scanner web platforms in real-time.

What It Does

Vox-Send acts as a bridge between your radio scanner and web-based radio scanner platforms. It monitors multiple audio channels simultaneously, applies voice-optimized filtering, and uploads transmissions as they occur - making scanner audio accessible through any web browser.

Key Features

Multi-Channel Support

  • Monitor unlimited radio channels simultaneously
  • Each channel independently configurable
  • Add, remove, start, stop channels on-the-fly

Professional Audio Processing

  • Voice-activated transmission (VOX) with adjustable threshold
  • High-pass filter (60-300Hz) removes electrical hum
  • Low-pass filter (2000-5000Hz) removes high-frequency noise
  • 75µs FM de-emphasis for broadcast-quality audio
  • Voice enhancement for improved clarity
  • Intelligent squelch/noise gate suppresses background noise
  • Adjustable input gain (1.0x - 10.0x)

Live Settings Adjustment

  • Change VOX threshold while channels are running
  • Adjust input gain in real-time
  • Fine-tune squelch without restarting
  • All changes apply instantly - no interruption

Flexible Output Options

  • Upload to rdio-scanner API (Trunk Recorder format)
  • Route to Virtual Audio Cable for local monitoring
  • Do both simultaneously

Professional Features

  • MP3 encoding (64kbps) for bandwidth efficiency
  • Proper timestamps on all transmissions
  • System ID and Talkgroup ID per channel
  • Alphabetically sorted device lists
  • Configuration auto-save/restore
  • Clean, compact interface

Technical Specifications

Audio Format

  • Sample Rate: 16 kHz (optimized for voice)
  • Bit Depth: 16-bit PCM
  • Encoding: MP3 (64 kbps) via ffmpeg
  • Latency: ~100-200ms from audio input to upload

System Requirements

  • Windows 10/11 (64-bit)
  • Virtual Audio Cable software (VB-Audio Cable or similar)
  • Scanner software (SDRTrunk, Unitrunker, DSDPlus, etc.)
  • Internet connection for API uploads
  • 4GB RAM minimum (8GB recommended for many channels)

How It Works

  1. Radios or scanners outputs audio to Virtual Audio Cables
  2. Vox-Send monitors each VAC for voice activity using VOX detection
  3. When speech is detected, audio is captured, filtered, and encoded to MP3
  4. The MP3 file is uploaded to your rdio-scanner server with System/Talkgroup metadata
