Kali Linux
The operating system we will use to "hack" the other machines in our lab is Kali Linux, which contains almost all of the tools we will use. When we get to the download site, we need to select the VirtualBox image for your host system (usualy 64-bit). Once downloaded, we will unzip with 7zip like we did with PfSense. After we unzip the folder find the OVA file in the folder and right click and selecting Open With and choose VirtualBox. There should be a prompt with preconfigured settings that pops up. On the left side of the page, click the folder icon and select the OVA file.
The machine will most likely start when we finish these settings, but we will want to shutdown the machine to make the neccessary changes to the machines network. Once again we will add the Internal LAN to Adapter 1. Start the Kali machine once these changes are complete. If you are met with a blank screen while the machine is running, make sure that the PAE/NX check box is selected in the Settings -> General -> processors tab. Once the machine fully boots, you should arrive at the Kali login screen. The default password and username for the machine are kali.
