It defaults to the Gentoo stable software branch for the system's architecture amd64 and requires systemd. You can build www-client/firefox from the Gentoo testing branch since the unity-menubar.patch is available for both branches: stable (Extended Support Release) and testing (Rapid Release). The same applies to mail-client/thunderbird.
