Prerequisites

Ensure you have Python installed on your computer before beginning.

Installation & Setup

1. Clone the repository and navigate into it:

# Open your terminal in the project folder
cd medical_services_project

2. Create a virtual environment: This keeps your project dependencies isolated from other Python projects on your computer.

python3 -m venv .venv

3. Activate the virtual environment:

  • On macOS/Linux:
source .venv/bin/activate
  • On Windows:
.venv\Scripts\activate

4. Install Django: Install the core web framework. (Note: If you add a requirements.txt file later, use pip install -r requirements.txt instead).

pip install django

5. Apply database migrations: Set up the initial SQLite database tables for the project.

python manage.py migrate

6. Run the development server:

python manage.py runserver

Once the server is running, open your web browser and go to http://127.0.0.1:8000/ to view the site!
