Resource contacts

Resource contacts are the equivalent of corresponding author(s). Keep the number of contacts to a minimum: one or two.

Resource creators

Resource creators are all the people who contributed significantly to the dataset. This includes the main researcher, collaborators, significant data collectors and the people publishing the dataset. The order of resource creators matters, since it translates in the order of the authors in the dataset citation. We generally use:

Main researcher (resulting in Main author et al.)
Collaborators in alphabetical order
...
Person overseeing the data publication

Metadata providers

Metadata providers include those who wrote the dataset metadata. In most cases this includes the main researcher and the people who took care of publishing the dataset.

Associated parties

Leave empty and add involved people as resource creators instead. Important: the person who created the resource in the IPT is automatically added as associated party and should be removed manually so this section remains empty.

First name

The form requires a first name and last name, so do not add non-person contributors (e.g. all butterfly recorders, which is included in the IPT but dropped in GBIF). Rather, add a person representing the organization as resource creator and/or mention the organizations in the dataset description.

Position

Do not use. It is sometimes hard to assign and can change throughout time.

Organization

Use the full name, e.g. Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO).

Personnel identifier

Only use ORCIDs as personnel identifiers:

Personnel directory: http://orcid.org/
Personnel identifier: 0000-0002-8442-8025 # ORCID itself
