Increase instrument volumeRange from 8 to 24#46

i back this, ive felt like volume and note 'size' is definitely too low-res, recently ive begun to change the note 'size' (tied to volume by default) in conjunction with the instrument volume just to get more resolution into the volume control, this limit seems like a holdover from the early days of beepbox, there r also other things in beepbox now which have much more resolution than instrument volume (filters, partial volume in fm mode, etc), so y not increase the resolution of volume and note 'size' too? the only thing i dont agree on here is the number 24, maybe 32 or 16? |

what do you have against 24 |

i think 32 levels including 0 would be better, or 16 levels like what FM parts have. |

1 example of this being a problem is how, in just the last 1-2 years i started to actually care about balancing my instruments volumes, when i started doing that, i very quickly found out how limited it is, particularly things get very difficult to balance when volumes are low. anyway i have to bring the volume of the entire song down to prevent hitting the limiter and bring things into a range where i actually have the ability to balance them, and for some reason when i get things balanced the drums are almost always too loud relative to everything else and end up at volume 1 and i cant lower them anymore because 0 is silence. i hope this fix goes through, 24 or whatever. |
See #41. Instrument volume range is only about 8 ticks wide, and increasing the value would help balance instruments that have very different volumes. One example: I have a sawtooth wave (panning right) that is competing with a 1/8 pulse wave (panning left) -- if I increase one, the other is now too quiet. If I increase both to max, volumes are kinda fixed, but this makes every other instrument in the mix sound too quiet.
