Mid Software Engineer II at Notch8 · San Diego, CA
Hello, I'm Kirk and I love building solutions with code. I've primarily worked in and around libraries and I'm loving it because, the mission is critical and the community is welcoming. I worked at the UC San Diego Library for 14 years with my last position as a Project Lead/Media Specialist in charge of still image digital reformatting to ingest into the DAMS. Towards the end of that chapter, I enrolled in the LEARN Academy coding bootcamp back in 2021 and now I'm a developer that works on software for libraries!
I mainly work within the Samvera community primarily with Hyrax and Hyku applications. I'm a mid level dev at a wonderful consultancy called Notch8 and where specialize in digital library solutions. I've had to pleasure work with instutitions such as UTK, PALNI-PALCI, the British Library, Adventist Digital Library, VIVA, West Virginia University, Harvard, and others.
Arcdex — An Arclight application for Pokémon TCG, built as a learning project deployed via Kamal on DigitalOcean. Mostly an excuse to explore Blacklight outside of the library context. Check it out at arcdex.dev!
Skullrax — A wrapper for creating Hyrax Valkyrie resources. The name was inspired by Bulkrax and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. In that show there was a dynamic dual named Bulk and Skull. Skull was the dumb one to me since Bulk always came up with the "brilliant" schemes. So this is almost like a "dumb" Bulkrax.
