We tried to add the subject to the principal (whatever that means) even if we were not logged in yet (e.g. ac/vc is not valid per the server.

I did getAC() == null instead of getAC() == "". Bad me! This caused anything with no ac/vc to fail automatically. Now it correctly prompts access code and verify code.
