I can see how this is very convenient, but what is the argument for only doing it for attributes? If ldapom is going to cater for Ptyhon 2 str object being passed to it, we should do it for all str-type arguments and remove the relevant warning in the README.

What do you think? Maybe there is a good argument for only doing it here?
