Solarpunk Utopia Platform

An Operating System for Post-Scarcity Communities

Fully Automated Luxury Space Communism, Implemented πŸŒ»βœ¨πŸš€

Vision

This platform is infrastructure for building solarpunk communities based on mutual aid, gift economy, resource sharing, and collective care. It's designed to help neighborhoods and intentional communities organize themselves without money, build resilience, and create the foundations of a post-scarcity society.

The platform embodies the principle that everyone's needs can be met through cooperation, sharing, and mutual support when we have the right tools for coordination.

Core Values

  • Non-Monetary: No money, no crypto, no tokens. Pure gift economy and mutual aid.
  • Post-Scarcity Mindset: Abundance thinking, not artificial scarcity.
  • Accessible: Runs on old phones via Termux. Works offline with mesh networking.
  • Privacy-Preserving: Local-first, federated, with user data sovereignty.
  • Liberation Technology: AI serves humans; humans don't serve AI.
  • Community-Owned: Open source, forkable, community-controlled.

What It Does

🎁 Resource Sharing (Buy-Nothing)

  • Share tools, equipment, and physical items
  • Coordinate access to 3D printers, workshops, and fabrication tools
  • Share robots and future technologies
  • Manage community spaces (gardens, workshops, kitchens)
  • Energy sharing: Solar panels, batteries, microgrid coordination
  • Real-time garden harvest listings

⏰ Time Banking

  • Volunteer time and skills in gift economy framework
  • Match helpers with needs using AI agents
  • Coordinate complex multi-person projects
  • Track community vitality (not debt!)
  • Shift swapping and coverage finding

πŸ€– AI Agent Coordination

  • Express needs in natural language: "I need to fix my bike today"
  • AI automatically finds tools, materials, and help
  • Coordinates schedules and logistics
  • Plans community events and raves
  • Ensures needs are met without manual searching

🏘️ Community Governance

  • Form neighborhood groups, communes, and cooperatives
  • Democratic decision-making tools
  • Community space management with maintenance planning
  • Chore wheel for fair responsibility distribution
  • Maintenance ticket system
  • Classes, workshops, and education coordination
  • Community bulletin board and open requests

πŸ’š Community Care

  • Check-in support for elderly and disabled members
  • Care circles and emergency alerts
  • Distributed environmental sensing (weather, air quality, temperature)
  • Food security (community fridges, meal trains, surplus distribution)
  • Emergency and disaster mutual aid
  • Peer support for mental health and wellbeing

πŸ›‘οΈ Conflict Resolution

  • Request mediation from community mediators
  • Restorative justice frameworks
  • Community accountability without punishment

🌐 Resilient Infrastructure

  • Works offline-first
  • Meshtastic integration for mesh networking
  • Delay Tolerant Networking (DTN) for disrupted environments
  • Runs on old Android phones via Termux
  • Peer-to-peer synchronization
  • ActivityPub federation with other communities

Technical Approach

  • Deployment: Progressive Web App, Termux on Android, multi-platform
  • Data: Local-first with CRDTs, peer-to-peer sync, community data sovereignty
  • Protocols: Value Flows vocabulary, ActivityPub federation, DTN bundles
  • Networking: Meshtastic mesh, WiFi Direct, Bluetooth, opportunistic sync
  • AI: Open source models, transparent, privacy-preserving, community-controlled
  • Identity: Decentralized identifiers (DIDs), user-controlled reputation

Build Roadmap

ROADMAP.md - Implementation roadmap ordered by anti-capitalist value chain:

  • Liberation infrastructure first - Offline-first, mesh networking, encryption (Phase 1)
  • Trust building - Simple features that create community bonds (Phase 2)
  • Mutual aid capacity - Coordination tools that multiply what we can do together
  • Liberation ratings (✊) to identify features that increase community autonomy
  • Joy ratings (🌻) to identify the most delightful features
  • Agent team assignments for AI-assisted development

The roadmap follows the Emma Goldman Test: "Does this increase community autonomy, or create new dependencies?"

AI Agent Integration Strategy

AI_AGENT_STRATEGY.md - Comprehensive strategy for leveraging AI/LLM agents throughout the platform

This document details 10 specialized AI agents and how they proactively coordinate community life:

  • 🎯 Resource Matchmaker - Anticipates needs, assembles solutions
  • ⏰ Time Coordinator - Optimizes schedules, prevents burnout
  • πŸ’š Community Health - Monitors wellbeing, prevents isolation
  • 🌱 Food Systems - Predicts harvests, prevents waste
  • ⚑ Energy Optimizer - Balances generation and usage
  • πŸŽ‰ Event Planner - Organizes celebrations and gatherings
  • πŸ“š Learning Guide - Personalized skill development
  • 🀝 Conflict Mediator - Early intervention, restorative justice
  • 🚨 Emergency Coordinator - Rapid crisis response
  • πŸ” Pattern Recognition - Identifies trends and opportunities

The vision: AI handles boring coordination so humans focus on creativity, connection, and joy.

  • Fully Automated Luxury Space Communism: Abundance for all, technology serving liberation
  • Mutual Aid: "Solidarity not charity" - Peter Kropotkin
  • Gift Economy: Giving freely, receiving graciously, without obligation

  • Appropriate Technology: Tools that empower communities, not corporations
  • Post-Scarcity: We have enough for everyone; the question is distribution and coordination

What This Isn't

  • ❌ Not a marketplace or platform for selling
  • ❌ Not using cryptocurrency or blockchain
  • ❌ Not about "disrupting" or creating startups
  • ❌ Not surveillance capitalism or extractive tech
  • ❌ Not trying to scale to billions of users
  • ❌ Not venture-funded or profit-seeking

What This Is

  • βœ… Infrastructure for community self-organization
  • βœ… Tools for building post-capitalist relationships
  • βœ… Technology for mutual aid and gift economy
  • βœ… Platform for experimentation and learning
  • βœ… Invitation to imagine and build different futures
  • βœ… Open source commons for communities to own and modify
