Fixes a crash in the regression tests due to a change in the Click 8.3.0 release on September 18. Click will likely be releasing a hotfix, but just in case this code should check to make sure there is a read attribute.
pallets/click#3068 looks like it has a fix that could perhaps make it into a click 8.3.1 hotfix release.
