Newer compilers turn non-compliant ISO C99 warnings into errors. Since there is some non-compliant ISO C99 code generated by configure.ac, the result is an mpiP that doesn't get past the './configure' stage with newer compilers. The required changes are in configure.ac. The other files changed when I ran a autoreconf -i to update the configure script.
