📱 General Questions

What is MyResidency?

MyResidency is a mobile application designed to help you track and manage your residency application processes, documents, and travel requirements. It provides checklists, reminders, document storage, and travel tracking to make the residency application process easier.

Which platforms is it available on?

  • Android: Available on Google Play Store
  • iOS: Available on Apple App Store

How much does it cost?

The app is completely free to download and use. There are no hidden fees, subscriptions, or in-app purchases.

Which countries are supported?

Currently supported:

  • 🇩🇪 Germany (EU Blue Card, Work Permit, Residence Permit)
  • 🇵🇱 Poland (EU Blue Card, Work Permit, Temporary Residence Permit)

More countries are planned for future updates.

Is my data safe?

Yes! All your data is stored locally on your device. We do not transmit personal information to external servers unless you explicitly choose to create backups. Your data belongs to you and stays on your device.

🚀 Getting Started

How do I set up the app?

  1. Download and install MyResidency
  2. Launch the app and tap "Get Started"
  3. Select your country (Germany or Poland)
  4. Choose your city
  5. Select your residency type
  6. Choose topics you're interested in
  7. The app generates your personalized checklist

What if my country/city isn't listed?

If your specific city isn't listed, choose the nearest major city. The app will still work effectively. Contact us if you'd like us to add your location.

Can I change my country/city after setup?

Yes! Go to Settings → Country & City to change your selections. The app will update your checklist accordingly.

What are the system requirements?

  • Android: Version 8.0 (Oreo) or higher
  • iOS: Version 13.0 or higher
  • Storage: At least 50 MB free space
  • Internet: Optional (only needed for news updates)

📋 Features & Functionality

How do checklists work?

The app generates personalized checklists based on your country and residency type. Check off tasks as you complete them, and the app tracks your progress. You can also add custom tasks.

Can I store actual documents in the app?

For security reasons, we don't store actual document files. Instead, track document metadata (titles, expiration dates, categories) and store the actual files securely elsewhere (encrypted cloud storage, physical safe, etc.).

How does travel tracking work?

Add your trips with start/end dates. The app calculates days spent outside your residency country, helping you stay compliant with residency requirements (180 days for Germany, 270 days for Poland).

Do I get reminders?

Yes! Set reminders for important deadlines, document expirations, and appointments. The app sends notifications to help you stay on track.

Can I backup my data?

Yes! Go to Settings → Backup to create encrypted backups. You can save them locally or to cloud storage. Restore anytime by importing a backup file.

How do I export my data?

Settings → Backup → Export Data. This creates a file with all your information that you can save or share.

Can I reset the app?

Yes, but be careful! Settings → Data Management → Reset Database will delete ALL data. Create a backup first if you want to keep your information.

🔒 Privacy & Security

Where is my data stored?

100% locally on your device. Your phone or tablet stores all information. We have no access to your data.

Do you collect any personal information?

No. We don't collect, store, or transmit any personal information. The app works entirely offline for core features.

What about analytics or tracking?

We don't use analytics, tracking, or any third-party services that collect user data. Your privacy is our priority.

Is the app GDPR compliant?

Yes! MyResidency follows GDPR principles:

  • Data minimization (collect only what's needed)
  • Local storage (no cloud transmission)
  • User control (you own your data)
  • Transparency (clear privacy practices)

What if I lose my device?

Your data is protected by your device security (PIN, biometric, encryption). If you have backups, you can restore to a new device. Otherwise, data cannot be recovered.

Can I delete all my data?

Yes! Settings → Data Management → Reset Database permanently deletes all app data from your device.

Germany Questions

What is the 180-day rule?

German Blue Card holders must spend at least 180 days per year in Germany to maintain residency status. Use the Trips feature to track this.

When should I apply for permanent residence?

Typically after 33 months with German B1 language skills, or 21 months with B1 language certificate. Check with authorities for your specific case.

What documents do I need for Germany?

  • Valid passport
  • University degree (recognized)
  • Employment contract (meeting salary threshold)
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Health insurance
  • Biometric photos

Poland Questions

What is the 90-day rule?

Polish Blue Card holders can be outside Poland for up to 6 months without losing permit status. We recommend spending at least 270 days per year in Poland.

Do I need a PESEL number?

Yes! Apply for a PESEL number immediately after address registration (zameldowanie). It's required for most government services.

What documents do I need for Poland?

  • Valid passport
  • University degree (recognized)
  • Employment contract (meeting salary threshold)
  • Proof of accommodation (zameldowanie)

🛠️ Troubleshooting

The app crashes on startup

Solutions:

  1. Force close the app
  2. Clear app cache (Settings → Apps → MyResidency → Clear Cache)
  3. Restart your device
  4. If issue persists, reinstall the app

I'm not receiving notifications

Check:

  1. Device Settings → Apps → MyResidency → Notifications (enabled?)
  2. Do Not Disturb mode (disabled?)
  3. Battery optimization (MyResidency excluded?)

My checklist isn't updating

Try:

  1. Close and reopen the app
  2. Pull down to refresh the Tasks screen
  3. Check if you selected the correct country/type during setup

I can't add a trip

  1. Start date is before end date
  2. You're not adding overlapping trips
  3. App has storage permissions

Backup/restore isn't working

For backups:

  1. Ensure storage permissions are granted

How much storage does it use?

Typically 10-50 MB, depending on your data. Documents are not stored in the app, so storage usage remains minimal.

Is the app available in other languages?

Can I transfer data between devices?
