This serves as a consolidated PR for miscellaneous fixes and cleanup relating to v4.4 milestone features. Each change is made in a separate commit referencing the pertinent feature request; please reference the commit history for a summary of the changes.

@jeremystretch , quick question before I get too far in, are these a result of the merge of main in to feature or is there some other reason why they are required?

I'm primarily concerned with retaining the messages for the commits within this PR because they are largely unrelated, and none of them have parent FRs/bugs to which they can be correlated.

The only thing I saw worth mentioning was that commit a3ce248 doesn't appear to reference an issue. I figured that might be intentional, but if not perhaps it should reference #19739 ?
