Here is a basic "readme" file.

This file can be edited, can include stuff, and can be formatted like this.

Thsi kind of file is best thought of as a place for notes.

Analysis notes

You can use it to write out summaries of what you're working on that aren't embedded in code.

It can easily be structured like this

This is called Markdown and is a a plaintext way of formatting supported by most programming-adjacent tools (like VS Code, RStudio, GitHub, etc.). You format things by including special characters. You can find out more here (https://www.markdownguide.org/cheat-sheet/).
