User (Industry Profession) Feedback #1:

Question: We realized that common waste like papers and plastics is picked up by the sanitation department. Therefore we wanted to know if there are any category of waste types that the sanitation department does not pick up or, is a hassle for the sanitation department?

Feedback: There are a number of types of waste that we don’t regularly pick up.

Many are outlined here:

Depending on the types of waste, the quantity you have, whether it is still usable, etc., there are many different options. We provide resources such as that to help people navigate all the options, but it is still quite a headache. I could imagine a resource that made this simpler to be very useful.

There are also a number of open data sets we publish that might give you some ideas of web applications you could build providing a user-friendly way of viewing the data:

Question: Any feedback on the overall application?

Feedback: It's good. Useful as well. The interface is intuitive and I am actually getting results which are pretty neat too.

User (Industry Profession) feedback #3:

Question: The application currently helps users find their recycling options and also aims to give insights into the ways something can be recycled in NYC. Once the user searches with their zip code and the items they want to donate or recycle, we provide them a list of results. This is divided into two parts based on the item's condition. The first part is for items in good conditions, therefore, can be donated and the second part is the items that have to be recycled. We display the results based places that accept all the things that user wants to recycle and also show our recommendations. We still have to add some features to the application for more user interactions such as maps and bookmarking places, however, this is the basic framework of our project. We would really appreciate if you could provide feedback on this MVP.

Feedback: I like it. Seems intuitive and easy to use.

Is the list of donation sites sorted by who accepts the greatest number of the items you selected? If so, that’s a good touch! As a user, I’d definitely prefer to dispose of my items in the easiest way possible.

A comment you made in your email would be useful to put right on the webpage. That is, the donation options are for good condition items and that the second part is for items that must be recycled. I like how you put the donation options first to encourage donation over recycling.

Can you save the items and zip code a user selected after the query so that I don’t have to re-enter it if I want to make a related search?

Finally, a map with the donation sites would be helpful too. Great work so far!
