There are a couple of issues with this library for our use case I think:

• it's very plain
• it's going to be hard to point to features in the d3 canvas, which i think will be important. my original plan was to use overlay images instead.

This one looks like it would do what we want, and also have room for extra fancy stuff down the track if we chose.
