Network revolves around the concept of moving things around through minimalistic, short-distance teleportation. To get started, you'll want to get yourself the following:
- 2 Nexus
- 2 Item Cores
- 1 Hyperspanner
Begin by placing the two Nexus onto two inventories that you want to transfer items between, like so:
Next, add an item core to each Nexus, done by right-clicking on the Nexus with the core. Now that each Nexus has a core, you can link them together. To link two Nexus, you will need a hyperspanner. Ensure the hyper-spanner is set to its 'one-way' mode, indicated by a single lit dot on the texture. If there are two lit dots, sneak-right click on nothing with the hyperspanner to change modes. Once the mode is set, right click the source Nexus to save its information. A small crystal should appear on the hyperspanner texture. Then right click the destination Nexus, which should complete the link. The crystal should disappear, and a small blue line should connect the two Nexus, like so:
However, items are not moving just yet. The final step is to set the mode on each Nexus. The mode of a Nexus is switched by sneak-right clicking on it with the hyperspanner. Nexus have three modes:
- White: Neutral - No interaction with attached inventories.
- Blue: Import - Attempts to import items from the attached inventory.
- Orange: Export - Attempts to export internal inventory to the attached inventory.
Set the destination Nexus to export mode, and the source Nexus to import mode. Congratulations! You have your first working network! Items placed in the attached inventory of the source Nexus should now move to the destination Nexus. Your final setup should look something like this:
You might have noticed that the rate at which items are transported through the Network is rather slow. Never fear, though! A few simple upgrades will significantly speed up the network.
There are three types of upgrades for a Nexus:
- Red LEDs: Increase the speed at which a Nexus a transfers its contents.
- Green LEDs: Increase the capacity a Nexus can transfer in one action.
- Blue LEDs: Increase the maximum range at which a Nexus can link.
To add an upgrade to a Nexus, simply right click the Nexus with the upgrade. To remove upgrades, sneak-right click with an empty hand. Upgrades will be removed in the reverse order of which they are placed, like a stack. If there are no upgrades on the Nexus, the core will be removed.
Note: Most upgrades will be required on both sides of a transfer. For instance, if the Nexus sending the items has a speed upgrade, but the one receiving doesn't, the whole system will be forced to run at the lower clock speed.
Moving fluids is just like moving items, simply replace the item core with a fluid core. and stick the Nexus on some sort of tank. All upgrades still work with fluid cores, but it will only transfer fluids to other Nexus which have a fluid core.
