I can't figure out the right test configuration to inject a value for ['chrony']['servers'] to match the tests... |

I don't think this is a good idea. Cookbook has a sane default and role/environment override will replace it with your own values since they are at a higher precedence. https://docs.chef.io/attribute_precedence/ |
