@stejskalleos have you ever tried using the installer with the katello devel scenario for this? documenting manual things that the installer would do for you seems odd to me.

😄 exactly what @ekohl asked me in the stejskalleos/knowledge_base#1 (review), so I qoute myself here:

Yes, I did try that, not on the same host, but running Smart Proxy in the virtual machine. Unfortunately, I encountered DHCP issues that I haven't been able to resolve, so I reverted to the local setup.
Plus, one of the main reasons why I do it like this is the debugging. Having everything locally just makes things easy to debug.

I really like to have my setup under 100% control while knowing what and how I did it.

Welcome to the Installer team, I guess? ;-)

My problem with this approach is that you're developing in an environment that does not match the environment the feature will be used in (and there must be some difference, otherwise installer would have worked for you).

Can you please explain? It's an development environment, so yeah, it won't match 100% with production, but I don't use the features in any unexpected way AFAIK
