Synthetic Realness

Part of the Reality Drift framework (2023–2026) by A. Jacobs.

Canonical Definition

Synthetic Realness is the structural condition in which optimized, curated, or artificial representations are perceived as more authentic than the realities they represent.

As media, algorithms, and cultural signals are refined for coherence, fluency, and emotional resonance, polished representations can appear more credible than the imperfect realities they depict.

Relationship to Reality Drift

Within the Reality Drift framework, Synthetic Realness represents the perceptual expression of drift.

As coherence and polish increase faster than contextual grounding, signals optimized for fluency begin to feel more authentic than lived experience.
