This improves the changes done in 4316616 so that the message about specifying only one component is not shown at all (previously it flashed for a fraction of a second, which looked jarring).

This updates the argument names in the
lmcurveapp, fixes a crash due to stricter validation intransformCWand avoids a couple of cases in which the user interface feels a bit janky.
