I wonder how we can create a sycl equivalent, or at least just trigger a global sync for sycl. That being said, I am ok with merging as is for now.

No idea, and we still don't have a intel machine to test sycl stuff :( . Here the idea is to support using different async streams to fully overlap some mpi, which seems to work reasonably well. That I thin is the only option to get the bsg package to perform |
