Georg: Alexander is interested in the Bio-Albedo effect, where snow-algae absorb light energy and contribute to the melting of glaciers. I am not so sure about using this algae as information storage, as receding glaciers also would mean loss of information.
The algae change from green to red at high UV, trying to change their color to white might be good for the glacier, but less so for the algae.

Roland: We ordered the primer pair P73/P47 (18S), from Berard et al., 2005 at Eurofins Genomics. Next steps: PCR using their protocol, checking on gel whether PCR worked.
