A check essentially means rolling a single die or several dice and comparing the result to an innate talent, a training, a physical or mental resistance or similar challenges in an effort to succeed on a certain task. Success usually means a positive outcome in the direction the player intends while failure is the clear opposite of one’s efforts. When the outcome is however uncertain and consequences are important, the dice determine the results. Otherwise rolling dice isn’t necessary and should be avoided as much as possible.

Whenever performing the die roll of a skill check, one or more of the skills, characteristics, classifications, items or the narrator decides which of the bonuses apply to the task at hand. The narrator however decides about the difficulty class in order to achieve a certain outcome

Characters always perform checks using one or more d20 dice. A check succeeds on any result greater than or equal to the difficulty class. A lower result always fails
