Narrator
The narrator is often understood as an abstract instance whose task it is to narrate the adventure, control and roleplay any characters that aren’t portrayed by the group of players and might be encountered by the party, and help to move the story along. They are working with the group to run the game and tell the story, control the environment, set up challenges, and doing so in service of making the game fun and interesting for everyone.
The group’s exploration of the world will take the form of a structured conversation between the group and the narrator. The narrator will present the situation and give players the opportunity to respond, explore places in the scene, help on making decisions in uncertain situations and elaborate the consequences to actions performed. In the end there is no one person in charge but instead, the narrator and the group are jointly responsible for telling the story, exploring new twists, and facing fate.
No matter how much the narrator is preparing an adventure, at some point the group will find ways to solve a problem that the narrator didn’t expect or otherwise insist on immediately following threads that were originally reserved for later use. In such situations, the narrator should be willing to follow the momentum and shift plans accordingly to fit the needs of the group, rather than the reverse. When the group pitches a concept or takes an action in good faith with the story, the narrator should look for opportunities to support them, and build upon their ideas
