Companions
A companion is different from a player character of its kind in many ways. It is treated as another character under the control of the player commanding it. Companions share the common attributes of a regular character like speed, attack damage, and hit points. They usually don’t use regular equipment and can’t have their equipment changed by the player but may wear special gear or make use of special tools in some exceptional cases like when the narrator or a specific adventure asks for it.
There are various convoluted ways to acquire such companions but it is up to the character to use a certain skill or the narrator to offer special occasions in order to do so. Under certain circumstances, a player’s character may also have a bonus of having a loyal companion right from the beginning. Such circumstances are noted in the characteristic or classification offering these bonuses.
A character can command only a certain number of companions at the same time. The amount is restricted to a character’s leadership rank, determined by their authority talent, but a minimum of at least 1 companion.
Mounts however can be controlled if they are able to accept a rider only. Domesticated creatures purposed for riding and mechanical creatures under a player’s control are assumed to have this ability
A character can handle their companions as a bonus action. To do so, they must succeed on a command check. The character adds its own charisma modifier to the roll. The difficulty class of this check is usually equal to 10 plus the greatest modifier provided by an authority talent among companion’s controlled by that character, and potential other bonuses. The difficulty class might however be changed in some exceptional cases like when the narrator or a specific adventure asks for it.
Whenever a character succeeds on a command check, they receive a bonus action. That bonus action can be used by a companion character only
