Is the attribute of mental action, acquiring knowledge and understanding through thought, experience, and the senses. A character focussing on cognition is proficient in critical thinking and can cope well with stress and make the right decisions in such situations. Perceptive characters also notice details that remain hidden to others and even tend to be able to read another person's reactions


Ingenuity

Measures mental acuity, accuracy of recall, and the ability to reason. Ingenuity checks cover drawing on logic, deductive reasoning to solve a problem and understanding principles of operation through thought


Investigation

Measures the talent of observation, finding clues and making deductions based on those clues. Investigation checks cover noticing details that remain hidden to others, deducing the location of a hidden object, discern from the appearance of a wound what kind of weapon dealt it or determining the weakest point in a certain structure


Perception

Measures the talent to spot, hear, or otherwise detect the presence of something. Perception checks cover a character’s general awareness of their surroundings and the keenness of their senses when trying to spot things that are obscured or easy to miss


Education

Measures the ability to acquire knowledge and memorize important facts. It also adds to a character's mental capacity. Education checks cover recalling knowledge about current locations but also lore about rites and religious practices, holy symbols, past disputes, recent wars, and lost civilizations


Insight

Measures the ability to determine the true nature of something or intentions of another character. Insight checks cover searching out a lie or predicting something’s next move by gleaning clues from body language, speech habits, changes in mannerisms and sticking to a character’s gut instincts
