Equipment
Characters have access to a certain amount of gear and extra equipment they carry while being on an adventure, which they may select whenever a character is created for the first time or after a rest.
Gear provides extra effects to a character. It remains attached to them after it has been equipped upon character creation or after a rest. Items a character can equip however usually have restrictions to a certain set of the character’s attributes but may be also limited in some exceptional cases like when the narrator or a specific adventure asks for it. For each attribute required, a player's character must provide a level of proficiency of equal or higher value. An equipped item not fulfilling the requirements anymore can’t provide any bonuses and other potential effects, and it can not be used from the character.
A character usually can equip up to 2 items with any of the “weapon”, “off-hand” or “shield” characteristics written to them but none of them must share one of those characteristics with an item already equipped. To equip another item, the character must first put a currently equipped item into their storage. Then equip the desired item from their storage. Equipment items can also be freely swapped between the character and their item slots.
A character can also equip items with the “armor” or “clothing” characteristic written to them but only 1 of those items at a time. To equip another item, it must first put the currently equipped item into their storage. Then equip the desired item from their storage
Item slots allow a character to hold extra equipment items with the “equipment” characteristic written to them to access when necessary. The amount is restricted to a character’s carrying weight, determined by their athletics talent, but a minimum of at least 1 item slot. Items can then be activated or consumed at any time later. Items a character can keep in their item slots however may have restrictions to a certain set of the character’s attributes but may be also limited in some exceptional cases like when the narrator or a specific adventure asks for it. For each attribute required, a player's character must provide a level of proficiency of equal or higher value. A held item not fulfilling the requirements anymore can’t provide any bonuses and other potential effects, and it can not be used from the character.
Single-use items with the “consumable” characteristic are discarded from a character’s item slot after they have been activated.
A character may prepare any number of copies of the same item in different item slots but only 1 copy of items that are considered “legendary”. This may however be limited in additional cases like when the narrator or a specific adventure asks for it.
To prepare an item for extra equipment upon character creation or after a rest, the character must first put any currently stored item from the target item slot into their storage. Then add the desired item from their storage to that item slot
